The INMO offers a free legal aid service for members, who wish to avail of it, with occupational or bodily injury claims. If a member has, what is viewed as a legitimate claim for compensation against any employer or other third part this service is geared to ensure that any financial worry associated with the taking of such a claim, is completely eliminated.
In the event of a member wishing to initiate a claim she/he should first contact the relevant Industrial Relations Officer who will, in turn, arrange for a Solicitor, who is on an agreed panel we have with our brokers in this scheme, to meet with the member and begin processing any claim. It should be noted that the panel of solicitors, referred to above, includes Solicitors based in all of the eight health board regions around the country.
It is important to note that this scheme will only cover injuries which primarily arise after 1st September 1999 and will not have retrospective application.
