INMO members accept Building Momentum Review
Press Release - 5.10.22

Members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) have voted, by a margin of 97% to accept proposals arising from the Review of Building Momentum in a physical ballot.

The proposals, which emerged following talks chaired by the Workplace Relations Commission, contain a number of measures to increase pay for nurses and midwives employed by the public sector.

INMO General Secretary, Phil Ní Sheaghdha said:

“Our members have accepted the pay proposals by a margin of 97%. It is clear from our information meetings that workplace after workplace are raising serious concerns about their ability to provide a safe level of care this winter. We are now engaging with members separately in workplaces to look at measures to provide them with realistic workloads.

“We will continue to monitor the cost-of-living increases, in light of today’s warning by the Central Bank of Ireland that inflation is forecasted to continue to rise.

“As we enter what is no doubt going to be a winter like no other, Government and the HSE must do everything they can to support nurses and midwives to give them every chance to deliver safe care this winter without additional burnout and additional unmanageable workloads.

“The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation will provide the results of this ballot to a meeting of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions Public Services Committee on Friday.”
