Characterising low back pain in adolescent athletes
Survey - Closing Date 2nd September 2022


Researchers at the Trinity College Dublin Discipline of Physiotherapy are conducting a research survey of healthcare professionals who are involved in the management of adolescent athletes with low back pain.

Why is this study being done? The aim of this research is to explore how low back pain (LBP) in adolescent athletes is currently assessed and managed by an array of healthcare professionals. Further, this survey will assess the LBP beliefs held by healthcare professionals.

Who can participate?

  • To participate in this study, you must:
    • Be a healthcare professional
    • Have experience managing low back pain in adolescent athletes (aged 10-19 years old)
    • Have at least one year of clinical experience

Do I have to take part? Can I withdraw?

You don't have to take part in this study.  It is entirely voluntary. You can change your mind about taking part in the study and opt out at any time during the questionnaire, even if you have already started filling it out. You do not have to give a reason for not taking part or for opting out. Answers that are not submitted will not be included in this study.

Please be aware that once questionnaire responses are submitted, it will not be possible to erase or change your responses due to the anonymity of the data.

How will the study be carried out?

Below is a general overview of the study:

  • When: July to August 2022.
  • Where: This will be an online survey conducted via Qualtrics. 
  • What will happen: You will be asked to fill out a questionnaire online via Qualtrics. The questionnaire will ask about assessment, management, and beliefs about low back pain in adolescent athletes. This questionnaire should take no longer than 30 minutes.
  • There will be no long-term monitoring or follow-up.
