Officers

President
Claire Mahon, CNM 3, University Hospital Waterford. Claire trained as an RGN and has a diploma in higher education and professional issues and a BSc (Hons) in Nursing. This is her second term as President; she has served on Executive Council since 2008. She has worked in community care, medical and surgical wards and theatre. She has been an active member of the INMO since her student years and worked as an industrial relations officer. In 2002, she received the Gobnait O’Connell Award.
First-vice president
Geraldine Talty, CNM2, Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore. Geraldine qualified as an RGN, has a BA (Hons) in healthcare management and an MSc in leadership and management. She has been a member of the Executive Council since 2010 and this is her second term as first-vice president. Geraldine has gained valuable experience working abroad in Australia, Germany and Saudi Arabia. She is secretary of the Offaly Branch and a hospital rep.
Second-vice president
David O’Brien, staff nurse, South Infirmary-Victoria University Hospital, Cork. David trained as an RGN in the Mercy Hospital, Cork, and holds degrees in nursing and law from UCC. He has been a member of Executive Council since 2012. He has worked in ED, theatre, intensive care, palliative care, bed management and general medical/ surgical. He is a member of the independent fitness to practise panel for the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council. He is chairperson of the INMO Cork Voluntary/Private Branch.

Clinical

Anne Burke, CNM2, ED, University Hospital Galway. Anne trained as an RGN and a registered midwife, and holds a Cert in palliative care, a HDip in critical care (A&E) and a diploma in first line management. She has been a released rep for University Hospital Galway since 2010 (.5 WTE) and a member of Executive Council since 2010. Anne received the Gobnait O’Connell Award in 2009.
Ailish Byrne, senior staff nurse, Muiriosa Foundation, Laois Family Support Services. Ailish trained as an RNID in Moore Abbey, Monasterevin before completing her training in general nursing in Tralee Regional Hospital. She has worked in surgical areas in University Hospital Waterford and St Luke’s, Carlow/ Kilkenny, and was a local rep in Laois Disability Community Services for the past 10 years. Ailish is the chairperson of RNID Section. This is her first term on Executive Council.
Moira Craig, staff nurse, Beaumont Hospital. Moira trained as an RGN in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin and completed her BNS in Dublin City University. She later undertook a postgraduate diploma in emergency nursing at RCSI. Moira has also served as a branch officer and a local nurse representative. She has been a member of the Executive Council since 2010.
Theresa Dixon, CNM2, ICU, Naas General Hospital. Theresa trained as an RGN and registered sick children’s nurse and holds a BSc in nursing management and a HDip in critical care. Theresa has been an active member of the INMO since her days as a student nurse. She was vice-chair of the Kildare Branch for four years, holding the position of chairperson for the past two years. Theresa has previously served on Executive Council.
Karen Eccles, staff nurse, Cavan General Hospital. Karen trained as an RGN in the UK and worked in gynaecology before transferring to theatre. She has worked in cardiac and orthopaedic theatres as an anaesthetic/recovery room sister and also worked on a liver transplant team for several years. Karen has been an INMO rep for her colleagues in the theatre setting. This is her first term on Executive Council.
James Geoghegan, staff nurse, University Hospital Galway. James trained as an RGN in UHG and completed his nursing degree in 2004. He is currently undertaking a postgrad in healthcare management and has worked on various surgical and medical wards in UHG and as an agency nurse in Australia. He is Galway Branch chairperson and has been on Executive Council since 2010.
Eileen Kelly, staff nurse, Sacred Heart Hospital, Roscommon. Eileen trained in Beaumont Hospital and holds a certificate in psychology, a diploma in gerontology, a BA in journalism and an MA in international human rights (NUIG). She has been a member of Executive Council since 2012. She was a community RGN with a multidisciplinary rehab team. She is secretary of the Roscommon Branch.
Eileen Lawrence, staff nurse, Baltinglass District Hospital. Eileen qualified as an RGN from the Adelaide Hospital, Dublin, and then as an RM from the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin. She is currently a full-time released representative in the Dublin South West, Kildare/West Wicklow region. She has been a member of Executive Council since 2010 and is chairperson of the Athy/ Baltinglass/West Wicklow Branch of the INMO.
Mary Leahy, PHN, Doughiska Primary Care Centre, Galway. Mary qualified as an RGN and RM in University Hospital Galway. She also worked in Wales and London before returning to complete a HDip in public health nursing and later, a BNS (Hons) in UCG. Mary has been on the Executive Council since 2012 and she is secretary of the Galway Branch.
Martin McCullough, staff nurse, Sligo Regional Hospital. Martin has a diploma in general nursing, a certificate in chemotherapy, a HDip in oncology nursing, and a certificate in nurse prescribing. He has worked in Australia both in oncology and in palliative care. He is currently secretary of the Western Youth Forum and a rep in Sligo Regional Hospital. He has been on Executive Council since 2012.
Deirdre Munro, staff midwife, University Hospital Galway. Deirdre is qualified as an RGN and is a registered midwife. She has a HDip in midwifery, an MHSc in health services research and is currently a PhD fellowship student of midwifery. She has worked in medical assessment, care of the elderly and orthopaedics. She is the education officer of the Midwives Section and vice secretary of the Galway Branch.
Bridget O’Donnell, staff nurse,University Hospital Limerick. Bridget trained as an RGN in University Hospital Limerick and now works in its emergency department. She has worked in the US where she was a staff nurse/senior charge nurse and a member of the trauma team in an emergency department. Bridget has been an INMO rep and has served on Executive Council since 2012.
Catherine Sheridan, staff nurse, University Hospital Galway. She trained in St James’s in Dublin and completed postgraduate training in sick children’s nursing at the National Children’s Hospital, Dublin. She is lead instructor and training site co-ordinator at Croí, West of Ireland Cardiac Foundation, and an honorary clinical fellow, School of Medicine, NUIG. She is the education officer of the Galway Branch. This is her first term on Executive Council.
Mary Walsh, staff nurse, Sligo Regional Hospital. Mary trained as an RGN in England and did her midwifery training in the Rotunda Hospital. She holds a BNS (Hons), a diploma in management and employee relations and a diploma in legal studies. She has worked as a theatre staff nurse and has been a nurse/midwife rep in Sligo Regional Hospital for many years. She is secretary of the Sligo Branch and has previously served on Executive Council.

Student

Darren Ó Cearuill, student nurse, integrated children’s and general nursing, DCU/ Children’s University Hospital, Temple Street/Bon Secours, Dublin. Darren was co-opted to the student seat on Executive Council in January 2014 and was recently elected for the 2014/16 term. He is an active member of the Dublin Northern Branch and represented the INMO at the ICTU Youth Conference in 2013.

Education

Karen Clarke, CPC, CNM2, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. Karen trained as an RGN and has worked in London and Galway. She has a degree in Business Studies in Healthcare Management and has worked as a staff nurse, CNM1, infection control nurse and overseas nurse facilitator. Karen has been the secretary of the Drogheda Branch for four years and an active INMO member since 2001. This is her first term on Executive Council.
Martina Harkin-Kelly, specialist co-ordinator and nurse educator, CNME Sligo/Leitrim and West Cavan, HSE West, Sligo. Martina qualified as an RGN in Sligo before going to work in London. She has completed an ophthalmic nursing diploma and a clinical teaching course and holds a BA (Hons) in economics and sociology and a research MA in humanities. Martina has worked in the School of Nursing in Sligo General Hospital as an acting clinical teacher and acting nurse tutor. She is the current Sligo Branch chairperson and is a serving Education Section member. This is her second term on Executive Council.

Management

Helen Butler, DoNM, St Luke’s Hospital, Carlow/Kilkenny. Helen trained in Whipps Cross in London and has a diploma in HR and industrial relations, a BSc (Hons) in health services management and is currently undertaking executive coaching training with LIT. Helen has been an active member since 1987 having served as chairperson, treasurer and secretary at branch level. She is currently the chairperson of the directors of nursing/midwifery/PHN section. This is her first term on Executive Council.
Margaret Frahill, CNM3, Mercy University Hospital, Cork. Margaret trained in general nursing at the Mercy University Hospital and in midwifery in the Doncaster Royal Infirmary in the UK. She has worked in the theatre department of the Mercy University Hospital since 1986. Margaret has been actively involved with the INMO for many years and has held the positions of chairperson, secretary and treasurer at branch level throughout her career. She is also an INMO hospital rep. This is her first term on Executive Council.
