News Update No. 20 - INMO Emergency Department Members
Tuesday, 15th March 2016
As previously advised the Workplace Relations Commission commenced its first review, of the ED agreement, at a meeting yesterday, Monday, 14th March 2016, involving the INMO/HSE/Department of Health.
The INMO delegation included a number of ED representatives, from departments across the country, together with officials and members of the Executive Council including our President, Claire Mahon.
The outcome of the discussions can be summarised as follows:
1. The management side agreed to reaffirm its directive that senior management at both hospital and group level, must attend the weekly meetings to monitor the implementation of the agreement at local/group level.
2. In relation to implementing the staffing elements, of the agreement, the talks proved quite frustrating. The INMO delegation demanded the straightforward assurance that all staffing requirements, specified in the agreement, would be met and implemented in full.
In view of this the Workplace Relations Commission adjourned the meeting and the parties will now reconvene, again under the WRC, at 12.00 noon tomorrow, Wednesday, 16th March 2016. The WRC has advised that all senior management, signatories to the ED agreement, should be in attendance at tomorrow’s reconvened meeting.
In the course of the discussions the INMO delegation reminded the management side that overcrowding in the ED continues. Latest figures confirm that the level of overcrowding has been very, very severe over the past two weeks. The INMO delegation reaffirms its belief, following acceptance of the agreement by members, that the ED agreement, implemented in full, still offers the best opportunity to reduce ED overcrowding.
A further update will issue, following tomorrow’s reconvened discussions. Thank you for your attention to this note.
