Like the INMO, the Nurse and Midwifery Organisation of Ljubljana in Slovenia aims to improve healthcare and contribute to the professional and personal growth of its members
Elizabeth Adams, INMO director of professional development, was invited to give a presentation at the annual conference of the Nurse and Midwifery Organisation of Ljubljana in November. Ms Adams made the trip on the invitation of Đurda Sima and Peter Požun, who are president and vice president of the Organisation respectively.

Ms Adams’ presentation focused on international trends in relation to professional development, in particular the evolving role of the nurse and midwife in medicinal product prescribing in numerous countries. Over 200 participants attended the conference over a two-day period. The event provided the opportunity to share and learn from the experiences and mutual challenges for the nursing and midwifery profession in the current economic climate.
The Nurse and Midwifery Organisation of Ljubljana is a voluntary, independent, non-profit, apolitical, professional association of nurses, midwives and health technicians of the wider Ljubljana region and its surrounding area. The Organisation is one of the 11 regional societies of the Nurses and Midwives Association of Slovenia under the leadership of Darinka Klemenc, president and Peter Požun, vicepresident.

Both groups celebrated the 85th anniversary of their foundation in 1927. Similar to the INMO, the Nurses and Midwives Association of Slovenia is a member of the International Council of Nurses and the European Federation of Nurses Associations and has a strong reputation in contributing to and driving the international nursing and midwifery agenda.
The Nurse and Midwifery Organisation of Ljubljana aims to improve health, contribute to the professional and personal growth of its members, and actively participate in the development of the nursing and midwifery profession to meet the needs of the whole population. The professional purpose of the organisation is the strengthening and development of the role of its members on a national and international level.
The Organisation plans, co-ordinates and supports the professional education of its members, establishing links with professional institutions and individuals.
It stimulates and conducts scientific research, and collects professional, statistical and other data, which is important for developing the profession. The Organisation also co-operates in health policy-making with international bodies, the trade union, professionals and other governmental and non-governmental institutions, societies and associations.

President Đurda Sima is supported by three vice presidents: Andreja Kvas, who is responsible for education, research and publishing; Peter Požun, who is responsible for administrative tasks, financial and legal matters and co-ordination of interest activities; and Sdenka Dov, who is responsible for the field of complementary and natural medicine in health and midwifery care.
