The INMO National Executive Council (NEC) is group of working nurses and midwives elected to direct the work and policy of the organisation.
The Executive Council has 22 members elected from all over the country and from all disciplines of nursing and midwifery. Members are elected for a term of two years and the council meets at minimum 11 times a year.
INMO Executive Council members not only represent their hospital, branch, grade and/or section but nationally all members regardless of grade or profession. The Executive also represent members on both the national and international stage, through our affiliations and our membership of organisations representing the professional and clinical interests of nurses and midwives.
The Executive Council consider and sanction all requests for industrial action that INMO members propose and has a collective responsibility for all decisions taken by the union.
Members of the NEC not only represent their hospital, branch, grade and/or section but they represent all members nationally regardless of grade or profession. This involves collective consideration of professional issues at a national level as well as channelling local issues through industrial relations staff for that area.
The Executive Council also represents INMO at international events and conferences, through the organisation’s affiliations with the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, the International Council of Nurses, the European Federation of Nursing Associations, European Public Services unions and their working groups and committees.
