The CJ Coleman Research Award was presented to Mary Kelly, a senior midwife who has worked in the maternity unit of the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise for 25 years.
Mary received the award at the recent INMO ADC for her research paper entitled, ‘Midwife- led resuscitation of the term infant at elective lower segment Caesarean section under regional anaesthesia’.

The evaluation panel described her research as “dynamic and innovative” and said that it has “the future potential to not only enhance midwifery practice but to improve quality and safety of care”.
Mary is currently in her second year of a Masters degree in leadership and management development. She is a facilitator of the Neonatal Resuscitation Programme and has a keen interest in neonatal resuscitation and in keeping up to date on evidence-based practice.
For the award, Mary received a bursary of €1,000.
