News Update No. 8: 24th December 2015
Recruitment / Retention Measures - Claim for Incremental Credit for new Graduate Nurses/Midwives
Thursday, 24th December 2015
I refer again to the proposals, which emerged from the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) process last week, regarding our four claims to assist in alleviating ED overcrowding.
You will recall that one of these claims centred on enhancing the recruitment and retention incentives which would, in turn, assist with improved staffing for Emergency Departments.
One aspect of this was our claim for incremental credit, for the rostered intern period, to be given/restored to all new graduate nurses/midwives (with retrospection back to 2011). As part of the recent proposals intensive engagement on this issue was to be completed this week.
I can now confirm that positive progress has been made, on this issue, and proposals will emerge which will be recommended, for implementation, by both the management side and ourselves.
Full details, with regard to this issue, and our linked claim for improved pay for the rostered internship (36 week) period itself will be considered, by the INMO Executive Council, in the first week of January.
As this is Christmas Eve I would like to close this note by wishing you, and your families, a very Happy Christmas and good health for 2016.
