"Incredibly dangerous” overcrowding at LUH

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has said today (Monday) that its members are once again calling for government intervention to resolve the “incredibly dangerous” overcrowding at Letterkenny University Hospital.

The union noted that the overcrowding is having a very serious impact on staff well-being as well as on the quality of care that they can provide to patients.

INMO Industrial Relations Officer for Letterkenny, Neal Donohue said:

Our members are trying desperately to work safely and keep patients safe in this incredibly dangerous environment, but it’s not possible.

The level of overcrowding is appalling and the COVID risk is extremely high. It’s simply not acceptable to expect or ask people to work in these conditions.

There’s no doubt this is going to have a long-term effect on recruitment and retention in the region, and that’s going to impact the entire community as well as COVID transmission in hospitals and elsewhere.

This situation requires immediate attention and government intervention.
