Following an open competition, the INMO, has appointed Dr Edward Mathews, currently the INMO Director of Professional and Regulatory Services, to the position of Deputy General Secretary Designate. Dr Edward Matthews will replace the current Deputy General Secretary, David Hughes when he retires on January 1st 2022.
Dr Mathews qualified as a Registered Nurse with Intellectual Disabilities from St. John of God’s in Drumcar, Co Louth. He subsequently furthered his education and holds a first-class honours degree in law, a first class honours Master of Laws degree, a Doctor of Philosophy in Law, a Barrister-at-Law degree, and qualifications in education and learning and conflict resolution.
He commenced his career with the INMO in 2002 as an Industrial Relations Officer for the Mid-West region and then worked as an IRO in the North Dublin region. In 2014 he was appointed Director of Professional and Regulatory Services. He has worked across our Industrial and Professional services in his career with the Organisation.
Speaking after today’s announcement, INMO General Secretary, Phil Ní Sheaghdha said:
I am delighted that Edward Mathews will be taking on this important role from January, and I am very confident in his ability, which is well proven, to maintain a clear focus on the issues facing INMO members and working with the Executive Council and entire INMO team to improve them.
We will be saying goodbye to a great worker advocate Mr David Hughes in December and this is a sad occasion for the INMO. We sincerely wish David good health to enjoy his well-earned retirement.
