Speaking after today’s announcement, INMO General Secretary, Phil Ní Sheaghdha said:

I am delighted that Edward Mathews will be taking on this important role from January, and I am very confident in his ability, which is well proven, to maintain a clear focus on the issues facing INMO members and working with the Executive Council and entire INMO team to improve them.
We will be saying goodbye to a great worker advocate Mr David Hughes in December and this is a sad occasion for the INMO.  We sincerely wish David good health to enjoy his well-earned retirement.

Dr Edward Mathews, INMO Deputy General Secretary Designate, said:

The majority of my working life has been spent advocating for nurses and midwives. The real difference that our members make every day across the country is profound but under-recognised.

I am so honoured to have the opportunity to work with our excellent staff team, our Executive Council, and all of our representatives across the country in this new role to continue to improve the conditions of work and recognition of our members.
