Nurses, midwives, friends, patients and supporters will march through Dublin from 12:30pm tomorrow (Saturday 9th Feb), in support of striking nurses and midwives. The march will call on the government to make serious proposals to resolve the industrial dispute.
All are welcome to attend the march, which will run from Parnell Square’s Garden of Remembrance at 12:30pm to the back of Leinster House at Merrion Square.
The march will feature student nurses and midwives with suitcases, calling on the government to give them a reason to stay and work in Ireland.
Over 68,000 people have signed an INMO petition supporting nurses and midwives at www.standwithus.ie.
A poll of 1,000 adults by the Claire Byrne Show/Amárach research found that 74% of the public support the strike.
INMO President Martina Harkin-Kelly said:
We have been deeply humbled by the public support for us during this strike. None of us want to be on strike, but it’s heartening to know that the public have our backs when we do.
I’m asking anyone whose lives have been touched by nurses and midwives to stand with us on Saturday.
This dispute must be resolved. Nurses and midwives are united and the public stand with us. Now it’s time for the government to make serious proposals to avert more strike.
