Over 162 patients have been on trolleys since June 4th according to the Organisation’s TrolleyWatch figures.
INMO Industrial Relations Officer for Our Lady of Lourdes, Drogheda, Maurice Sheehan said:
Our members in OLOL are deeply concerned about the number of seriously ill patients who are ending up on trolleys throughout the hospital without an adequate number of nursing staff rostered to care safely for them. “Our members have raised this very urgent issue with their union and hospital management. We know that large volumes of patients on trolleys for extended periods of time can have negative impacts on the long-term health outcomes of patients and also staff safety. “The issues in OLOL are being compounded by the HSE’s recruitment freeze, which is making it even more difficult for our members to be able to provide safe care. “The INMO is now calling on the hospital to take extraordinary measures in order to reduce the number of patients on trolleys.
