Last July you the members of the INMO sounded the alarm that overcrowding in our hospitals was going to be a major concern this winter. 

It has been a busy week for the INMO between lobbying successfully for the vaccine booster to be provided to nurses and midwives and our extremely well-attended demonstration outside of Dáil Éireann for our student nurses and midwives. 

A week has passed since I wrote to the Chief Medical Officer and the Chairperson of the National Immunisation Advisory Council asking them to recommend that nurses, midwives, and other patient-facing healthcare workers receive their booster vaccine as a matter of priority

The decision by Government not to extend the COVID-19 booster vaccine programme to healthcare workers at this time is wrong. 

Pressure across our health service is continuing to grow. We are seeing pre-pandemic numbers of patients on trolleys this week.
