Mindset shift needed to tackle trolley crisis

Over 10,018 patients went without a bed in Irish hospitals in September according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation. Over 202 children without a bed in September. So far in 2023, 2,523 children under the age of sixteen have been treated on a trolley or chair.

Over fifteen community intervention team nurses in SouthDoc and thirty-eight community intervention team nurses in CareDoc in Wexford, Waterford, Wicklow, Kilkenny, Carlow and Tipperary have yet to receive the Pandemic Recognition Payment according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

Persistent Hospital Overcrowding Impacting Patient Safety

On World Patient Safety Day, the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has called for the HSE to come to this week’s Emergency Department Taskforce meeting with renewed and workable solutions to reducing overcrowding which in turn will have a positive impact on patient safety.

Emergency Department Taskforce must meet as trolley numbers soar

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has called for the Emergency Department Taskforce to meet urgently to discuss how the HSE plans to tackle the persistent overcrowding problem in Irish hospitals. This comes as over 521 patients, including 7 children, have been admitted to hospital without a bed today.
