Post Registration Course Funding

Public sector post registration course funding

  • Under this initiative a registered nurse/midwife undertaking an NMBI Category II approved post graduate/higher diploma course in a specialist area of clinical nursing/midwifery practice may be entitled to have their fees paid in full. This is conditional on the individual not having been funded for a specialist course within the last 36 months (or less specifically required by service need) and provided the conditions of this initiative are fulfilled.

This initiative is subject to certain conditions set out in HSE Circular 20/2009.

Nurses/midwives who are sponsored in accordance with the above circular will be paid their existing salary plus specialist allowances (where applicable) on entry to the programme.  Students are entitled to receive incremental credit during the programme.

  • Recognised midwifery education hospitals and Nursing Midwifery Planning and Development Units (NMPDUs) are authorised to pay course fees for all students studying for the post registration Higher Diploma in Midwifery.

Student midwives' and nurses are to be paid at their existing salary on entry to the programme. Students are entitled to receive incremental credit during the programme.

This initiative is subject to conditions set out in HSE HR Circular 4/2011.

  • You should not resign from your post. A public health service employee who is sponsored in accordance with HSE Circular 004/2011 will retain their existing substantive post. This applies for the duration of the academic study programme and if applicable for the duration of the service commitment.

  • Recognised children's nursing education hospitals and Nursing Midwifery Planning and Development Units (NMPDUs) are authorised to pay fees for all students studying for the post-registration Higher Diploma in Children's Nursing.

Student children's nurses are to be paid at their existing salary on entry to the programme. Students are entitled to receive incremental credit during the programme.

This initiative is subject to conditions set out in HSE HR Circular 4/2011.
