This networking group is open to all who are working as undergraduate nursing Student Allocation Liaison Officers  

Aims and objectives

This professional section aims:

  • To provide a nationwide forum for Allocations Liaison Officers to come together as a group to discuss issues pertinent to the allocation of the undergraduate nursing student to practice placements. 
  • To share information regarding the allocation of undergraduate nursing students to practice placements. 
  • To exchange information regarding liaison with third-level counterparts and concerns with establishing and coordinating student placements within the health service. 

Mission Statement

The purpose of this group is to promote communication among the Student Allocation Liaison Officers nationwide, in relation to allocating practice placements for undergraduate nursing students in General Nursing, Mental Health, Learning Disability, Children’s, General, and Midwifery. Allocations of Clinical Practice Placements for B.Sc.(Cur).  

The SALO group strives to ensure there are sufficient and varied experiences of clinical learning for all nursing students attending clinical practice placement. 

The role of the Student Allocations Liaison Officer (SALO) is to establish, organise and co-ordinate multiple core and specialist clinical placements for undergraduate and Internship nursing students in partnership with Higher Education Institute, thereby ensuring each nursing student meets the Requirements and Standards for Nurse Registration Education Programme An Bord Altranais (2005). 

We have collated information nationally in relation to current issues arising from student allocations e.g. Increase in undergraduate absences from clinical placements, failed placements during internships, etc.
